Anomalies of Refraction, Donders' Essay

نویسنده

  • Charles A. Oliver
چکیده

Apart from the interest of the book on historical grounds, its value is enhanced by the fact that it is a summary of the late Professor Donders' monumental work on the subject in which he was the pioneer. The anomalies of refraction are summarized in a series of aphorisms which show, in a striking manner, how far the writer was in advance of his times, and how little has since been added to the conclusions at which he arrived. The work cannot but be read with much profit, and Dr. Oliver is well deserving of thanks for making this unique brochure accessible to the English-speaking ophthalmic world.

Splenic Anomalies of Shape, Size, and Location: Pictorial Essay

Spleen can have a wide range of anomalies including its shape, location, number, and size. Although most of these anomalies are congenital, there are also acquired types. Congenital anomalies affecting the shape of spleen are lobulations, notches, and clefts; the fusion and location anomalies of spleen are accessory spleen, splenopancreatic fusion, and wandering spleen; polysplenia can be assoc...

Refraction at the Interface of a Lossy Metamaterial

The refraction phenomenon at the interface of an ordinary material and a lossy metamaterial has been investigated. For oblique incidence on the lossy metamaterial, the planes of constant amplitude of the refracted wave are parallel to the interface and the plane of constant phases make a real angle with the interface (real refraction angle). The real refraction angle and hence, the real refract...

Refraction in Discrete Raytracing

Refraction is an important graphics feature for synthesizing photorealistic images. This paper presents a study on refraction rendering in volume graphics using discrete ray tracing. We describe four basic approaches for determining the relative refractive index at each sampling position, and examine their relative merits. We discuss two types of anomalies associated with some approaches and th...

Congenital brain abnormalities: Pictorial essay

Among all fetal anomalies, the central nervous system anomalies represent one of the most frequently involved structures with an estimated incidence of 1 per 100 births. It is mostly difficult to make an accurate diagnosis of congenital brain malformation, based on clinical findings; thus use of computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is essential in these cases. The aim of...
